The unique and imposing chandeliers within the historic interior of the Liechtenstein CITY PALACE are each replete with an impressive history and testify to the diversity of decorative lighting styles during the 18th and 19th centuries.

On this special guided tour of the CITY PALACE, visitors will learn more about the elaborate restoration of original chandeliers, as well as the exciting work undertaken to reconstruct chandeliers that could no longer be recovered. The tour also offers insights into the different craft and construction techniques deployed, giving visitors an opportunity to see for themselves the unique aspects of these priceless and truly resplendent masterpieces.

On this guided tour, visitors have the opportunity to gain rare insights into the three Corner Salons of the Liechtenstein CITY PALACE, with exhibits including historical family portraits and unique furnishings.

Masterpieces from the early Renaissance to the Biedermeier era

The presentation in the Liechtenstein GARDEN PALACE shows masterpieces from the early Renaissance to the High Baroque era, including works by Peter Paul Rubens, Rembrandt, Anthony van Dyck, Lukas Cranach the Elder, Frans Hals and Raphael, as well as the Badminton Cabinet, the most expensive piece of furniture in the world. Of equal art-historical importance is the collection of Italian bronzes, the focus of which lies in masterpieces of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. In addition to these outstanding paintings and sculptures, the Princely Collections also contain important holdings of pietra dura objects, porcelain, tapestries and ivories, all of which once graced the castles and palaces owned by the family.



Since April 2013 paintings and furniture from one of the most productive and independent periods in the history of Viennese art, the, in the case of Vienna, almost inseparable Neoclassizism and Biedermeier era, are on view in the newly renovated Liechtenstein CITY PALACE, including masterpieces from the works of Friedrich von Amerling, Friedrich Gauermann and Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller. Prince Hans-Adam II von und zu Liechtenstein today owns one of the richest collections of Viennese Biedermeier art, including paintings, watercolours and furniture together with major holdings of porcelain.
